Prosecutor's office opens criminal case over accident at meat factory in Slutsk

Minsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case in connection with an accident at a meat-processing factory in Slutsk. The criminal case was opened on July 21 under Article 306 in the Penal Code that deals with the violation of labor safety procedures. On July 18, nearly 200 kg of ammonia leaked from a refrigirator hosepipe thus exceeding the concetration of this substance in the air hundreds of times more than normal.

One female worker died during the accident. Four people were injured, including three in a critical condition.

Preliminary estimates suggest the accident was caused by a poor welding line on the pipe.
