Prosecutor's office pledges to eradicate phone thefts

The thefts of mobile phones in Belarus will be put at halt, the Office of the Prosecutor General has said. Effective from July 1, 2008, mobile communications operators will stop servicing the phones with the changed identification numbers.  Law-enforcement agencies are concerned over the steady growth of phone thefts. Hundreds of thousand mobile phones with re-loaded software are currently in use in this country.

According to STV, one of the providers reported 27,000 phon with the same serial number. The Office of the Prosecutor General counts on the communications providers to create conditions that would make no sense to steal a mobile phone.
