Russia wires $1.5bn loan to Minsk

Russia has fully wired the $1.5 billion stabilization loan to the Finance Ministry's account at the National Bank of Belarus, reports Interfax.
Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov said during the talks with his Belarusian counterpart Syarhey Sidorski on Wednesday that Russia had transferred the state loan to Belarus.

Under the loan agreement signed by the parties on December 20 in Moscow, Russia was to wire the money by December 31.

This loan is planned to refill the country's foreign currency reserves which currently amount to $3.5 billion. Belarus's foreign debt is $830 million. In September, the government raised the foreign debt limits from $2 billion to $4 billion. In 2008, the limit will be further raised up to $6 billion.
