Russian company to pay 6 million USD for damage to Belarusian ecology
Russia admitted responsibility for the catastrophe at the Russian pipe Unecha-Ventspils in Beshankovichy District of Vitsebsk Region. The vice Prime Minister of Belarus Victar Bura informed about it on June 6. A Russian company “Zapad-Transnefteproduct” will have to pay 6 million USD for the damage done to the ecology of Belarus.
Let us remind you that the disaster happened at the beginning of May. It took Belarusian services several weeks to get rid of the diesel oil that did not get into the West Dzvina and its tributaries this time. The March disaster at the West Dzvina oil-pipe led to contamination that spread to the territory of Latvia. The Belarusian Office of Public Prosecutor claimed that a Russian enterprise “Neftegazkomplektservis” was responsible for the disaster as it had produced the faulty pipe.
