Session of OCSE Parliamentary Assembly starts in Kiev

The 16th session of the OCSE Parliamentary Assembly has started in Kiev today. A Parliamentary delegation headed by the vice speaker of the House of Representatives Syarhey Zabalotsets takes part in it on behalf of Belarus.
Representatives of the Belarusian opposition have also been invited there: the co-leaders of the Political Council of the united democratic forces and the leader of the movement “For Freedom” Alyaksandr Mіlіnkevіch.

A resolution “Situation in Belarus” will be discussed on July 6. A representative of Denmark Christian Pil Lorentzen will make a report about it.

The Belarusian situation will also be considered during a round table discussion on July 7. Deputies of the OCSE Parliamentary Assembly and leaders of the Belarusian opposition will take part in it.

In the project of the resolution the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly urges Belarusian authorities “to make use of the EU initiative on good-neighbourly relations”, stick to international obligations connected with the idea of a free and democratic state “including measures to improve the situation in the country listed in the unofficial document of the European Commission”.

The OCSE Parliamentary Assembly urges Belarusian authorities “to make amendments to the Election Code and to ratify it” and to invite OCSE “to participate in the supervision of all future elections”.
