Signatures to demolish monuments to Lenin collected in Polatsk
Signatures in support of the demolition of monuments to Lenin are being collected in Polatsk. More than 100 signatures have already been collected in order to dismantle two monuments. The idea belongs to a newly-created party “Belarusian Christian Democracy”.
The initiators do not demand a demolition of the monuments because, for example, one of them was created by a famous sculpture - Andrei Babel. However, they think that the monuments should disappear from Polatsk Streets and be placed in some museum – a historical one or a museum of the Soviet occupation.
BelaPAN reports that they are planning to organize a picket “Polatsk without Lenin” on Lenin’s (Vladimir Ulyanov’s) birthday on April 22 and to send the collected signatures to the head of Polatsk District Executive Committee Uladzimir Tachyla.
