Snowfall blacks out Homel region for several days

Belarus is struggling to clean up the aftermath of a heavy snowfall earlier this week. From November 11 through November 13, 1571 settlements, mostly in the Homel and Mahilyou regions, remained blacked out.

Vital Navitski, spokesman for the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry told the European Radio for Belarus that at least 10 settlements in the Homel region were still cut from electricity as of 6 a.m. "It is not much", he said.

Over 60 villages yesterday remained without electricity in the Mahilyou, Homel and Minsk regions. Electricians and rescuers have teamed to help villagers out.

ONT reports that all the repairs will be finished by the end of this week. Repeated load-sheddings are not excluded.
