Social democrats to change party leader

A historian Anatol Sidarevich and General Valery Fralou will run for the position of the party leader. The 13th congress of the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada) has to take place on October 10.
Some mass media have already labeled the alternative as struggle between the pro-European and pro-Russian wings in the Social-Democratic party. Mr. Sidarevich refutes this version:

Sіdarevіch: "The issue is not about the pro-Belarusian and pro-European wings. This is not a problem. We have just decided to organize alternative elections and that’s it. Furthermore, Mr. Fralou has not withdrawn his candidature… We still have two weeks before the congress, who knows what may happen in two weeks?”
Valyantsina Bolbat, Iryna Veshtard and Mechyslay Hryb were suggested for the position of the party leader besides Fralou and Sidarevich. All of them have already withdrawn. The candidature of current party leader Anatol Lyaukovich was not mentioned.

Let us remind you that Sidarevich announced that he was going to leave the party a few weeks ago. However, the politician has told ERB that the statement was not registered by party organs. That is why he is still a member of the BSDP (Hramada), according to its statute.
