"Solidarity" demands release of Russians detained on December 19 in Belarus
The united Russian democratic movement "Solidarity" has prepared an appeal to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanding to achieve release of the Russian citizens Ivan Haponau and Artsiom Breus and their return to Homeland. In case the Belarusian authorities refuse to release the Russians, "Solidarity" suggests to introduce sanctions against the country which demonstrates hostile attitude to Russia, disrespects the law and human rights, and considers that it is justified to fabricate criminal cases against Russian citizens, stated in the appeal.
"The actions of Minsk courts which have already demonstrated their professional insufficience , having sentenced a number of people who never participated in the December 19 action, without the right to call a lawyer and witnesses - all this convinces us that there is no justice in Belarus, and Ivan and Artsiom might be considered guilty in the crimes they never committed", - "Solidarity" activists say.
"Solidarity" reminds that Haponau and Breus are officially accused of mass disturbances and face up to 15 years of imprisonment for participation in the action on December 19.
Haponau and Breus were released from the Belarusian prisons where they served administrative detention after a corresponding demand of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 30, remind the activists. "However, later Ivan and Artsiom were arrested again, and they were presented an accusation in accordance with criminal articles. Thus, the demand of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to release all the Russian citizens arrested in Belarus has in fact not been fulfilled", - the activists claim in their appeal.
