Statkevich invites to celebrate EU enlargement on Labor Day
Mikalai Statkevich, the chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) and one of the leaders of the European Belarus campaign, has invited members of the public to take part in Labor Day celebrations at noon on May 1 near the National Library of Belarus, reports Charter'97. The celebrations are also timed to mark the date when 10 new states joined the European Union in 2004, thus shifting the borders of the EU next to Belarus.
On May 1, the site near the National Library will also host festivities to be organized by the pro-government Federation of Trade Unions. After speeches, Belarusian pop stars will perform.
