Stradivari violin from Sharkaushchyna declared forged
The violin that was found last fall in the village of Haradzets in the Sharkaushchyna district of Belarus was not crafted by the famous Italian luthier, reports Respublika newspaper.
The violin was marked with “Antonius Stradiuarius 1723”. But Uladzimir Khazanau, a string instrument expert at the Ministry of Culture of Belarus, says just one look was enough to understand that it was not Stradivari.
Meanwhile, another violin allegedly signed by the famous master was found in Brest. The instrument does not have strings but it is also marked as “Antonius Stradiuarius”. The owner claims that he bought it from a landlord. He has already consulted with Uladzimir Khazanau. The expert says this instrument has nothing to do with the name of Stradivari.
