Supreme Court to consider appeal against Alyaksandr Zdzvizhkou’s sentence today
The Supreme Court of Belarus will consider the appeal against the sentence of a journalist Alyaksandr Zdzvizhkou today.
Let us remind you that Minsk City Court returned the former deputy editor-in-chief of the “Zhoda” newspaper guilty of arousing religious animosity and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment. Zdzvizkou allowed reprinting cartoons of Prophet Mohammed from the Danish press.
The print-run was confiscated and it was not distributed, however, Zdzvizhkou has been serving his sentence since the end of last year.
He has not pled guilty but claimed that the sentence was caused by persecution for religious reasons and sent a complaint to the Supreme Court. It will be considered by a panel of three judges, reports Radio Liberty.
