Suzdaltsev: Secret services prepared lists of “opposition deputies”

Russian political commentator Andrei Suzdaltsev comments to the European Radio for Belarus on the outcome of the election to the House of Representatives in Belarus. No opposition member has won a seat in the parliament, despite many talking ahead of the polls that several oppositionists would be “allowed” into the legislature.

Andrei Suzdaltsev believes that the outcome of elections was expected and that we witnessed “a complete failure of the Belarusian opposition”, although it had been warned.

“They were told straightforwardly, including from Moscow that they would be “flushed”. All those lists were prepared by security services and disseminated among the Belarusian civic society… They simply took part in a game”.

Andrei Suzdaltsev is convinced that by taking part in the polls, the opposition contributed to “legitimization of Lukashenka”.

He forecasts that part of the opposition after this “elegant victory” will turn into dissidents.

“The pro-Western part of the opposition was simply “flushed”. Another part will turn into dissidents. The third part will be looking for its own new way… A new opposition will be formed one day, but this will happen in a new country and under another authority”.
