Thailand not to charge pilots of Il-76
The General Office of the Public Prosecutor of Thailand will not charge the IL-76 crew detained in Bangkok with a contraband cargo of weapons. “Lenta.ru” informs about it referring to an English-language Thai newspaper The Nation. According to the edition, a high-rank official of the General Office of the Public Prosecutor has informed that the Thai police have taken the decision to refuse from prosecution because the Belarusian and Kazakhstan authorities expressed a desire to let their citizens stand trial at home.
According to the Thai legislation, the term of detention of pilots of the Il-76 without accusation will end on February 11.
Let us remind you that the freight carrier Il-76 was detained in Bangkok airport on December 11, 2009. The Thai authorizes found out that it transported more than 35 tons of weapons from North Korea. According to its documents, the cargo was “drilling equipment”. The crew of the Il-76 including Belarusian Mihail Petuhou were detained. The pilots claimed they did not know what they had to transport.
