Thomas Melia to show solidarity with Belarusian opposition
The aim of Thomas Melia's visit is to obtain information on the situation in Belarus.
The aim of the visit of Thomas Melia, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the United States Department of State, to Minsk is to obtain information "on the situation in Belarus after the force actions which took place after the events of December 19" straight from the source. Melia will meet with the families of the detainees, the representatives of the civil society, the democratic opposition, the heads of the EU missions and the representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit on January 22-25, stated in the Embassy.
Melia will have a working meeting with the heads of Department of America and Department of Humanitarian Cooperation at the Belarusian foreign ministry on January 22, Belarusian MFA spokesman Andrei Savinykh told Belapan news agency. "All issues of mutual interest will be discussed", said Savinnykh.
