Torture in Valadarka – lack of sleep
Cell #69 is meant for 13 people but there are usually 22-24 prisoners in it. They have to take turns to sleep due to the lack of space and plank beds.
People imprisoned in this cell for the first time are not included in the sleep queue for the first two days, informs a human rights centre “Vyasna”.
According to human rights activists, cell #69 is meant for prisoners refusing to cooperate with investigators to make them give evidence. Lack of sleep is added to the crush and stuffiness and the risk to catch TB gets is a few times bigger.
A few people accused in the mass disorders criminal case have gone through “the torture cell”.
