Indian geneticists have managed to increase the amount of protein in potatoes by 60%. Scientists are planning to save people suffering from the lack of protein with the help of transgenic potatoes. Potatoes are the main food in numerous developing countries, informs “Nasha Niva”. The same can be said about vegetarians who also lack protein. The new potatoes’ taste, weight and other characteristics do not differ from the usual ones.
The “meat” potatoes have been tested on rats that had been eating them for three months. The experiment showed that their blood tests and the functioning of various systems of their organisms did not change. Scientists are planning “to enrich” other vegetables too.
