'Trial of 14' postponed for May 26

The hearing in 'The Trial of 14", initially scheduled to take place today at Minsk's Central District Court, has been postponed for 0930 on Monday, May 26. The court's clerk declined to comment on this decision.
14 youngsters are facing criminal charges for taking part in the street protests of entrepreneurs on January 10, 2008 in Minsk.

On April 22, Justice Alena Ilyina voiced the first verdicts in this case. Andrei Kim was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. Mikhail Pashkevich, Tatsyana Tsishkevich, Mikhail Kryvau, Aliaksei Bondar, Artsyom Dubski, Ales Straltsou, Ales Charnyshou received 2 years of suspended sentence each. Anatol Koypish and Uladzimir Syarheyeu were penalized with Br 3.5 million ($1700) fines each.

Mikhail Subach, Pavel Vinahradau and underage Maxim Dashuk will face trial on Monday. Aliaksandr Berazenka, who studies in Wroclaw, Poland, decided not to return to Belarus, fearing criminal prosecution. He is officially wanted by the Belarusian police, writes Nasha Niva newspaper.
