Trusau: I would not return state holiday status to July 27

The real day of freedom for Belarus should be the Freedom Day – March 25. July 27 will stay in the history but it will not have such a status. The head of the Belarusian Language Association Aleh Trusau – one of the deputies of the Supreme Council who adopted the state sovereignty declaration – has expressed his opinion in an interview with ERB. Trusau: "However, the day will remain in Belarusian calendars. Evidently, it will be a remarkable date rather than an official holiday. By the way, the loose-leaf calendar “Homeland” says that the Independence Declaration was signed 20 years ago. That is why I think and I thought that our Independence Day should be March 25".

According to Mr. Trusau, July 27 is an important day for Belarus, however, it is hardly necessary to make it an official holiday again.

Let us remind you that the Independence Day had the status of an official holiday by 1996.
