Two little children died in fire in the house in Puhavichy district
The tragedy happened in the village Shatsk of Puhavichy district in the morning on September 1. The mother left her 4-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter at home alone, leaving for work. She asked their grandmother, who lives 70 meters away from the house of the children, to look after them, informs BELTA. The grandmother visited the children from time to time, and, having assured they play quietly, went to her own house. At approximately 7 a.m. one of the relatives accidentally saw smoke coming out of the house where the children had been. The grandmother couldn't enter the house because of the strong smoke and fire.
Specialists from public prosecution, law-enforcement authorities and the Ministry of Emergency Situations are now investigating the reasons for and circumstances of the tragedy. The point is more than 20 minutes passed since the moment the fire started till the moment fire fighters were called. Moreover, the fire-alarm box which was placed in the wooden house back in 2006, failed to work due to unknown reason.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire quickly, but two dead bodies - a girl's and a boy's - were found in the remains of the house. The preliminary version is that the reason for tragedy was children's playing with fire.
