Two officials in Minsk convicted over graft
Two former officials in Minsk have been convicted for having received a bribe of $500,000 from Russian developers. According to the Prosecutor General's press office, Bellegpromproject's former director general Ioksha and former head of Leninski District's department for capital construction Chyhryn wanted to make a dime on a tender.
Ioksha was trying to convince a representative from a Russian investment company and his partners that they had to pay a bribe to Belarus officials in order to secure their victory at the tender for developing projects in Minsk. Ioksha was arrested by the police when he was holding $500,000 of the bribe money.
Investigators determined that Mr Chyhryn was also linked with this story. He was charged with a conspiracy for a bribe. A Minsk court sentenced Ioksha to 11 years in prison with the confiscation of property. Chyhryn received 10 years behind bars, according to Zvyazda newspaper.
