Two pilots die in Belarus military jet crash

"There have been plenty of jets during the last several days", - adds an abbulatory worker from Radziavilavichy. - There must have been some training flights but I'm not sure why exactly"

Military prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case to investigate the accident. It is Part 2 of Article 465 of the Criminal Code "Breaking the rules of flights or preparation thereof", according The accident happened at about 5 p.m. on Thursday. Both pilots-officers died. The European Radio for Belarus learned within the first several hours after the tragedy that one of them had just got married. The pilots - a Lt. and Lt.-Col had been transferred from an air base in Biaroza where the air force unit was to be phased out, a month ago. The plane was constructed for 2 pilots, separate catapulting was not prescribed. Pilots could catapult only together.


The local office of Ministry for Emergencies declined to comment on the crash. The European Radio for Belarus has learned that the jet crashed outside the town and no buildings were damaged or people on the ground killed. The pilots deliberately steered the plane away from the town.


Another accident connected with aviation happened yesterday: a motorized hang glider crashed in Pruzhany district. The accident happened near the village Vialikija Jakovichy, informs the department on information of the Administration of Internal Affairs of Brest city executive committee. The catastrophe happened during a training flight.


The glider which belongs to "Pruzhany Aviahimservice" fell 1 kilometer away from the take-off runway. The pilot is alive and is now in hospital with numerous injuries. The accident is investigated by the traffic prosecutor's office.
