UCP disapproves of dividing opposition into “left” and “pro-Belarusian”
The United Civil Party disapproves of the division of the opposition into “left” and “pro-Belarusian”. Its leader Anatol Lyabedzka has claimed that he supports the plan of transformation of the democratic coalition but the UCP is against “the artificial division of the democratic forces based on their level of democracy and European or Belarusian values and considers such actions destructive and irresponsible”.
BelaPAN reports that Lyabedzka has urged UCP subjects to restrain from announcing their participation in the presidential elections in 2011 till April when the term of suspension of EU visa sanctions imposed on Belarusian officials is over. “Speaking about our participation we may stimulate the authorities not to change the current rules”, said the politician.
According to Lyabedzka, “the trial period” of the Belarusian authorities will end in April and it will become clear whether the Election Code will be changed or not.
