Ukraine to export electricity to Belarus

"We have lifted all the mutual anti-dumping investigations and all the restrictions and start working in a constructive way", Ukraine's PM Yulia Tymoshchenko said on June 12 after talks her Belarusian counterpart Siarhei Sidorski in Kiev.

The premiers also signed an inter-governmental agreement on a visa-free regime which envisages a simplified procedure of registration for citizens who travel across the border. Under the document, the period of stay of Ukrainian citizens in Belarus without registration will be increased to 30 days from 3 days currently.

Tymoshchenko and Sidorski also reached a deal on the supplies of Ukraine's electricity to Belarus. The contract is effective from June 12, Sidorski said.

The contract to export Ukraine's electricity was signed in May 2009. Belarus is prepared to import 750 million kWh in 2009, reports Belapan
