US consul denied access to detained Emanuel Zeltser
The United States has called on the government in Belarus to fulfill its international commitments and to ensure an immediate and regular access of the US consul to the American citizen Emanuel Zeltser, detained in Minsk. US State Department's spokesman Tom Casey said in a statement that the US was concerned with the health condition of Zeltser who is sick and has to take his medication daily.
He stressed that the US consul was denied an appointment with the American citizen who was held in a KGB prison and was recently admitted to "the state-owned mental hospital", reports Interfax.
Emanuel Zeltser was detained on March 12 at the Minsk International Airport. Media speculations suggest that the American lawyer could be arrested over the case of Georgian billionaire Badri Patarkatsishvili who died in London.
Zeltser and the relatives of Patarkatsishvili allegedly attempted to seize the billionaire's assets by forging inheritance documents.
