US renews call for Zeltser's release
The
United States has renewed
its call for the release of US
lawyer Emanuel Zeltser on humanitarian grounds. On August
11, Zeltser was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of
"attempted industrial espionage" and the use of fake documents. His
secretary, Russian national Vladlena Funk, was sentenced to one year in prison
on the same charges.
Earlier this
month, Belarusian authorities rejected the U.S. Embassy's request for Zeltser
to be treated in a public hospital and examined by an independent doctor.
