US senators stand for common sanctions with EU
Strict common sanctions against the regime and support to the Belarusian people should become a response of the United States and the European Union to Lukashenka's brutal actions and policy. Six American senators stae this in their letter to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, informs Radio Liberty.
The senators declare their conviction that it is importants to give a strong, principle common response to the repressions in Belarus."We consider it necessary to implement additional measures as well. In particular, we call on the European Union to support the United States and to freeze relations with the state-controlled concern "Belnaftahim", which is very important for Aliaksandr Lukashenka's regime's financial well-being", - the senators write.
"The people of Belarus should knowthat the European Union and the United States are together on thir side in their struggle for freedom, and that we are ready to render considerable and essential support to help them win this battle", - stated in the letter.
The senators have directed copies of this letter to the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek and the foreign ministers of the EU countries.
