US students help maintain ancient Jewish cemetery in Belarus village
American students are renovating an abandoned Jewish cemetery in the village of Rubiazhevichy, Stoubtsy district in the Minsk region. From May 24 through June 4, 19 students and professors from the Catholic Siena College, Olbani, N.Y., are restoring the original stone fence at the Jewish cemetery in Rubiazhevichy, reports Belapan.
They also plan to repair an early-19-century house which used to belong to a Jewish family. The building will be turned into a Jewish museum.
This is the second time for the US students and professors from Olbani to come to Belarus. In summer of 2006, they restored a Jewish cemetery in the village of Usalub, Navahrudak district in the Hrodna region.
