Vitsebsk opposition members to stand trail for national flag
A trial of a non-party opposition member Barys Hamaida and a member of BNF Alyaksandr Salauyan will take place in Vitsebsk today.
They were detained by policemen from Kastrychnitski District Department of the Interior about 7 p.m. yesterday. A white-red-white flag and some things the police considered as necessary to attach the flag to buildings were found on them.
The activists are accused of illegal vigil. According to the head of Kastrychnistaki District Department of the Interior Andrei Prakapovich, “the vigil” was Hamaida and Salauyan’s attempts to “throw something there and thus drawing attention of citizens”.
By the way, the detention took place in the dark on the border of an industrial district and a bedroom community of Vitsebsk where there were practically no passers-by. According to the order of the head of the District Department of the Interior, the activists spent the night in the confinement cell.
