Will government remove blockade on distribution of non-state newspapers?
The Civic Supervisory Board on the Media, chaired by Pavel Yakubovich, is to discuss in May the distribution of the non-state newspapers and the case of "Ksenofont Superfosfatov". A meeting of the organizing committee of the Civic Supervisory Board on the Media has taken place in Minsk. THe board was set up this year, following a resolution of the Council of Ministers. Pavel Yakubovich, the editor-in-chief of Sovietskaya Belorussia newspaper, was appointed as its chairman. Among others, Zhanna Litvina, the chairperson of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, and Joseph Siaredzich, the editor-in-chief of Narodnaya Volya newspaper, were invited to take part in this board.
Siaredzich had "normal impressions" after the first meeting, which, in his view, was "held in a democratic way with an active participation of all members of the board". The board approaved the procuderes and two more issues on the agenda of the next meeting.
Joseph Siredzich: "The first issue deals with the ethical code of journalists. It was also decided to study the issue of the distribution of the non-state mass media".
Zhanna Litvina also raised an issue of the article by Ksenofont Seperfosfatov in Sovietskaya Belorussia on human rights activist Yana Palyakova and proposed to the board to evaluate this incident.
Joseph Siaredzich hopesа that it will be impossible to remain silent about this issue and it will be discussed indeed.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for May.
