Work groups from Ministry of Internal Affaires to consider convicts’ cases

The realization mechanism of the law on amnesty has been defined in Belarus. Work groups for consideration of convicts’ cases have started being created in the Ministry of Internal Affaires, reports ONT.
Let us remind you that the law on amnesty was sent to Parliament by the President and was adopted by the House of Representatives on October 24. The Council of the Republic approved the project of the law on November 16.

It is planned that 3512 convicts including 1682 imprisoned people will be amnestied in the first half of 2008. Political prisoners will not be included in the amnesty.

The current amnesty has some peculiarities. Only those who are serving their sentence at the moment and criminals who have compensated for the losses caused by them will be amnestied.

It is the seventh Belarusian amnesty since 1994. It is expected to help the state save about 2 billion rubles per year.
