Youth activist cleared of "hooliganism" charges in Smaliavichy
A district court in the town of Smaliavichy, Minsk region ruled to drop cursing charges against a youth activist.
On August 7, around 60 local youth people staged an action titled "Where is Electricity?" in respond to the local authorities's policy of power-saving. Street lights have remained off for the past three months.
The youth used lit candles to make the sentence "Where is Light?" on the ground. One of the actio participants, Alexander Syryshko was detained by police and charged with hooliganism.
However, the judge took into account the testimonty of the accused and ruled to drop the charges, reports the Visna human rights center.
