Zhirinovski wants Vilnius to become part of Belarus

Vladimir Zhirinoskiy, Russia's scandalous politician and one of the contenders for the Russian presidency during the March 2008 presidential elections, has proposed to return the Lithuanian capital Vilnius and the Vilnius region back to Belarus, reports novonews.lv. His statement came as a reaction to Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus's claim for $28 billion to be compensated by Russia for the occupation of the Baltic state by the Soviet Union.

According to Zhirinovskiy, if Lithuania  is to get this compensation, the pre-WWII status quo must be restored. This implies that Lithuania should be deprived of the the cities of Vilnius and Klaipeda that used to be part of the Soviet Union before the World War II.
